1) Did you make any New Year's resolutions? I never make New Year's resolutions 'cause I know I'll never keep them. I do make goals though, big ones like, "I want to go on tour this year" or "I will write tons of songs."
2) What's the most important thing you learned in 2001?
My family is more important than anything. You keep thinking why do the big bosses in the world keep fighting? And then you realize you're fighting with somebody in the grocery shop 'cause YOU were the one grabbing that last milk and NOT her. Think about it. We have to start small, if we're going to make it.
3) What is your favorite outfit?
This white leather suit I had on for the MTV Asia awards.
4) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Nobody's perfect and I think the best thing you can do is to except who you are. Love yourself. Of course I do have issuesÉbut I don't want to share them with the world.
5) What is the best book you've read?
We have a Norwegian author named Unni Lindell and she wrote a book called S¿rgekŒpen. I don't think they have it in English. I love books with surprising endings.
6) Do you think success has made it harder for you to stay down to earth?
I think it depends on the people you have around you. If you only have "fake" people around you saying what you want to hear all the time, it won't be long until you go DOWN HILL! I have a family that treats me the same way and yes I have to do the dishes too (haha). I have a job that I love and it might bring more attention than normal, but that doesn't mean I'm better than somebody else. We're all people.
7) How is Norway different from the United States?
What I love about American people is that you're very good at supporting people. If you have somebody in your class (for instance) that is good at something (like football or singing) you support them and think it's great. I'm used to being in the U.S. where people talk to strangers in elevators, when I come home and do that in Norway people think I'm crazy!! Norway is a good country to live in though. We have just 4 million people. We have free health care and free education for everyone. The tallest building we have has only 38 floors!
8) What is your favorite song lyric from your music? From another artist's song?
My favorite lyric on our record "The Big Room" is the song I wrote called "Love Left for Me." It's not many words, but it explains everything I felt. Every time I sing the song it takes me back to that time when I was heartbroken and I thought nothing would ever be good again. I just bought the Shakira album "Laundry Service." I love her lyrics. The lyrics to "Underneath Your Clothes" make me smile.
9) What are your five favorite CDs of all time?
Aerosmith, "Nine Lives." Counting Crows, "August and Everything After." Travis, "Invisible Band." Jennifer Brown, "Vera." Shakira, "Laundry Service."
10) If you could chose to meet someone who would it be and why?
I'd love to meet Paul McCartney and just sit down and hear all his stories. I would love to write a song with him too.
